Why Chicken Feet Are Perfect For Bone Broth

I know that chicken feet may seem a little weird and unconventional.

But they’re a powerhouse of collagen and nutrients.

And that makes them an ideal choice for bone broth.

With high collagen content, they help support joint health, skin elasticity, and gut health. Which makes this broth a must try for anyone on a carnivore or gut-health-focused diet.

Key Points About Cooking And Oxalate Levels:

You will notice that in my husband’s chicken feet bone broth recipe, he includes vegetables.

But please, don’t come for me.

Once the bone broth is cooked, he strains the liquid away from the vegetables and discards them.

My body is extremely sensitive in regard to eating things that negatively impact it. And I have not felt one negative side effect from him making bone broth for me this way.

I have only experienced the many health benefits of drinking bone broth.

Cooking, particularly boiling, can significantly reduce the oxalate content of vegetables. Studies show a reduction of soluble oxalates by 30-87% depending on the vegetable and cooking method.

Feel free to remove vegetables from the recipe as you see fit, based on your own body and how strict of a carnivore you are.

You will still end up with the best bone broth you have ever tasted.

Here’s The Step-By-Step Instructions On How To Make Chicken Feet Bone Broth In An Instant Pot

Step 1: Prepare the ingredients

Peel your carrots and chop them finely, along with your celery and onion. This helps them to release their flavors and breakdown properly. Take a sharp knife and cut a whole head of garlic down the middle. Thoroughly rinse your chicken feet and remove the nails by using a sharp knife, or kitchen scissors.

Step 2: Add Your Ingredients To The Instant Pot

Place the chicken feet, chopped vegetables, garlic, and spices (pepper, salt, and red pepper flakes) into your Instant Pot. Add just enough water to cover everything.

Step 3: Set The Instant Pot

Add the bay leaves and secure the lid. Set the Instant Pot to “Slow Cook” on the “Low” setting for 10 hours. When the timer goes off, reset it for another 10 hours, making it a total of 20 hours. This extended cooking time ensures all the nutrients and collagen are fully extracted.

Step 4: Strain and Store Your Bone Broth

After 20 hours, carefully strain the broth into a metal pot. Discard the solids (although you may want to cook your chicken feet in the air fryer for a crispy snack!) Pour the broth into glass mason jars. Let them cool before refrigerating or freezing.

This makes it easy to follow along.

Storing And Using Your Chicken Feet Bone Broth

Storage Tips:

  • Fridge: Keep any broth you’ll use within a few days in the fridge.
    .
  • Freezer: Freeze the remaining broth for future use. Be sure to leave some room in the jars for expansion.

If you’d like to freeze your bone broth in smaller amounts than the mason jars allow, I really like these food grade silicone trays.

They are 100% BPA free.

And each compartment is one cup.

Which is the perfect size for drinking.
